Gujarat: GST Collection Records All-Time High in FY 2024-25
In April 2025, Gujarat achieved a significant milestone in its Goods and Services Tax (GST) collection. The state records its highest GST collection of all time. According to the latest data released by the Ministry of Finance on May 01, Gujarat records a GST collection of ₹14,970 crore, making a massive 13% year-on-year rise. In terms of GST Collection, Gujarat places among the top three states, and it is only behind Maharashtra and Karnataka, recording GST collections of ₹41,645 crore and ₹17,815 crore, respectively.
Gujarat witnessed a steady and strong growth rate of 13%, while Maharashtra, the state with the highest GST collection, recorded a decelerated growth rate of 11%, which was 13% in the same period as the previous year. Despite this slowdown in the highest GST collecting state, Maharashtra, Gujarat’s economic performance remained strong throughout the year. The state’s total GST revenue for the financial year 2024-25 has reached ₹73,281 crore, an impressive 14% jump from ₹64,133 crore collected in 2023-24.
Not only Maharashtra, Gujarat also outperformed some other leading GST-collecting states like Tamil Nadu (₹13,831 crore), Uttar Pradesh (₹13,600 crore), and Haryana (₹14,057 crore). Apart from these states, smaller states like Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, and Nagaland also reported impressive growth in their GST collections; among them, Lakshadweep saw a gigantic 287% rise.
On the national front, India’s total GST revenue for April 2025 touched a record mark of ₹2,36,716 crore, reflecting a 12.6% year-on-year growth. Gujarat’s 13% growth rate of GST collection not only demonstrates its impressive economic resilience but also surpasses the national growth average, highlighting the state’s role as one of the leading contributors to the country’s fiscal health.
