According to the advisory dated 20 November 2025 issued by the Goods and Services Tax Network (GSTN), changes related to Rule 10A will soon be implemented on the GST portal. Under Rule 10A, taxpayers—except those registered under TCS, TDS, or suo-motu registrations—must furnish their bank account details within 30 days of registration or before filing details of outward supplies in GSTR-1 or  IFF, whichever is earlier.

“GSTN has informed that if taxpayers do not update their bank account details, their GST registration may be suspended. To avoid any business disruption, taxpayers should update their bank account information as soon as possible.”Additionally said that Bank account details can be added through a non-core amendment by navigating to service> Amendment of Registration Non-Core Fields.

According to tax expert Bimal Jain, the government revised Rule 10A because many registered taxpayers were operating multiple bank accounts that were never reported on the GST portal. To ensure proper tracking, it is now mandatory for every taxpayer to update all their bank accounts on the GST portal. Failure to do so can lead to suspension of GST registration, resulting in business disruption. For new GST registrations, bank account details must be updated within 30 days from the date of registration or before filing GSTR-1 or using the invoice furnishing facility (IFF)—whichever is earlier.

Who Needs to Register for GST?

As explained by tax expert Abhishek Soni, the following people and businesses must register for GST:

  • Anyone who was already registered under old tax systems like VAT, Service Tax, or Excise.
  • Businesses whose turnover crosses ₹40 lakhs, ₹20 lakhs, or ₹10 lakhs—depending on the type of business and the state.
  • Non-resident taxable persons and casual taxable persons.
  • Anyone making interstate supplies.
  • Input Service Distributors and agents of suppliers.
  • Individuals or businesses are liable to pay tax under the reverse charge mechanism.
  • Businesses selling through e-commerce platforms.
  • E-commerce operators like Amazon, Flipkart, Myntra, etc.
  • Anyone providing online information or database access services from outside India to customers in India (other than registered taxpayers).

Conclusion

Updating bank account details on the GST portal is now mandatory for almost all taxpayers. Non-compliance can lead to suspension of GST registration and potential business disruption. Taxpayers—especially new registrants—should ensure their bank details are updated within the stipulated timeframe to avoid penalties and interruptions in their operations.
