If you are planning to do business in Pesticides in India, it is crucial for you to be aware of the banned pesticides by the Indian government. The Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare formed an Expert Committee headed by Dr Anupam Verma to evaluate 66 pesticides that are permitted in India but banned or restricted globally. Based on their recommendations, the Registration Committee banned 12 pesticides on October 14, 2016, phased out six by 2020, and addressed specific cases that were under Supreme Court consideration.
Ongoing reviews and consultations have resulted in the prohibition or phased-out use of 46 pesticides and four formulations, withdrawal of 8 registrations, and restrictions on nine pesticides. The list of banned and restricted pesticides attached herewith is available on the official website of the Directorate of Plant Protection Quarantine & Storage.
