Procedure for Change in PAN Card Name or any other information in PAN
New Delhi : The PAN which is an abbreviation of the Permanent Account Number is a ten-digit alphanumeric code issued by the Income Tax Department in India. The PAN is a unique and permanent number and remains valid for the lifetime of its holders. At present, the Income Tax Department issues the PAN number by way of a plastic identity card or ecard. A typical PAN Card contains the following information.
- Name of the Pan card Holder
- Fathers Name
- Date of Birth
- PAN Number
- Photograph in case of Individuals
- Specimen Signature.
PAN is mandatory for a host of transactions and it is advisable to obtain a PAN Card as soon as possible. The PAN Card can be allotted a person immediately after its birth. Following is the list of activities/transactions which shall require PAN Number.
- To file Income Tax Return
- For deposition cash above Rs. 50,000
- For opening a Bank A/c
- For obtaining a telephone connection
- While the incorporation of a Company or LLP
The name printed on the PAN Card and the Database of the PAN card holder with the Income Tax Department is generally same, however in some cases, it may differ. For all purposes, the PAN details are accepted as it is with the Income Tax Department database. In case you are planning to start a company or an LLP the details of the PAN Holder gets fetched from the database of the IT Department and the following particulars must match
- First Name
- Middle Name
- Last Name
- Fathers First Name
- Fathers Middle Name
- Fathers Last Name
- Date of Birth.
To put it simply for the incorporation of a company or for the purpose of allotment of a Directors Identification Number (DIN), the applicant has to fill an eform known as Spice Form or DIN-3 Form respectively. In the first part of these forms, the applicant has to fill his name, fathers name, PAN Number and date of birth, thereafter the same need to be validated by clicking a button in the form. If the date entered in the form is exactly the same as in the database of the income tax department then the form gets validated. In case the data is not validated then the applicant has to check the details in the PAN Card Database by calling to the income tax department customer care number and can find out as to what does not match. The next is to prepare for making an application for change of the details of the PAN Card.
Sometimes the PAN Database gets validated with the PAN Holders details as in the PAN Card, but their other documents may have different details, for example, the passport, voter Id Card, Driving License, Bank Passport may have details slightly different. These happen due to an error at the time of making these documents, change of name after marriage, or any other reasons.
PAN Card Change Application: The application for changing the PAN Card shall be made online or offline, however, whatever method you chose the self-attested document must be submitted to the department.
Offline Mode
The easiest mode is the offline filing for correction as at the time of filing the application the receiving office also verifies the details and the validity of the documents being submitted. To file an offline correction you need to download form “Request For New PAN Card Or/ And Changes Or Correction in PAN Data” from the income tax website. The form as on updating this article can be downloaded. The form must be filled as per the instruction provided in the Form. The form also has detailed instructions for the documents required. After filling the form completely go to any nearest Pan Card Centre and submit the form with prescribed government fee.
Online Mode
For making an online application for correction fill the form online, pay the fee through online mode and thereafter the applicant shall receive an acknowledgment. The supporting documents along with signed acknowledgment need to be couriered to the address as indicated in the acknowledgment itself.
